AEROSPACE TEAM GRAZ

the sky is no longer the limit.

We are a highly motivated team of students located in Graz, Austria, who aspire to construct a successful and influential aerospace team. We are currently working on the development of a rocket, in order to participate in the Spaceport America Cup in 2022. Nevertheless, we will focus on other projects in the future as well.

Airbrakes

Airbrakes are mechanical systems that may be actuated after the engine cut-off in order to decelerate by increasing the air resistance, e.g., by radially extending baffle stones, to achieve a targeted apogee.

Recruiting Day

The Recruiting Day - The foundation of the ASTG team. Many rockets and aeronautical enthusiasts met on this day to be part of a huge and exciting project. The most diverse modules were presented, and the actual aim of the project was explained. If you also want to become a member of the ASTG team feel free to contact us. it is never too late to start something new.

Propulsion Update 08.12.2020

#technicaltuesday

Hi, my name is Felix and today I share the topic of my bachelor thesis.
My bachelor thesis is about designing a Laval nozzle for our hybrid rocket engine. The requirements for the nozzle are high temperature resistant, light weight and a highly efficient expansion of the exhaust gas. To reach this target I am writing a program in python which takes over the data of the combustion and environment to compute the most efficient design. To withstand the high temperatures of the exhaust gas we are using graphite which is fairly lightweight and temperature resistant.

Space Team Vienna

On a cold day in January 2020, we went on a trip to Vienna in order to strengthen our team spirit and work on our networking skills. We arrived in the morning, did some sightseeing, and visited the beautiful Stephansdom. In the evening, we were invited to visit the office of the TU Space Team Vienna and had the grand possibility to make new contacts, exchange opinions and ideas, get new information and ask any questions regarding their previous projects. It was an enjoyable and informative evening; we are looking forward to meeting again!

Avionics Update 24.09.2020

#technicaltuesday

Our Avionics Dodo Concept: These renderings show our current concept model for the prototype rocket Dodo. We attach our flight computer, telemetry and connector PCBs on a 3D-printed mount. The mount also contains enough space for the LiPo batteries that will power our components. In order to be able to communicate with the other systems of the rocket, we use# 4 circular connectors at both ends. Finally, to increase the standby time of our system we implemented a magnetic charging connector for the system, allowing us to recharge our batteries while mounted in the rocket.
